Re: [LUG] Setting up Samsung ML-1510 laser printer under SuSE9.1

I am trying to set up a Samsung Laser ML1510 printer under SuSE 9.1. The on-line manual insists that the printer must be set up as root. So
I go into console, "su" enter password go to media/cdrecorder and type
./setup.sh. The disk spins, but nothing happens. I log out and log
back into KDE as Root and do the same again. This time the system files
are down-loaded from the CD and I'm instructed to type "linux config" if
I want to set up a specific printer. This I do and up comes a screen
that tells me that this needs root privileges, and to enter
Administrator password. This I do, only to get the message "Log in
failed". And there I'm stuck. Ringing the Samsung help line was an
episode of futility, as I was told that no one there knew how to help
with linux. Even though the printer is sold as "Linux compatible".
Has anyone on this group ever installed this printer, and can give me a
guiding hand?

I have a ML4500 installed on Fedora Core 1 and Mandrake 8.2. I used the printtool command.

$ printtool

Now if I remember correctly Fedora Core 1 setup was different to Mandrake, and SuSE may be different again. The printtool is a GUI based configuration tool, sorry I can't remeber the exact process but hopefully it's just a case of answering the questions it asks. At some stage there will be a list of printer models to choose from.

Andrew
