Can you do a roll-back on the updates?  If that fixes it then presumably the
updates did not go in cleanly.  Which would not be the first time by any
means.

Perfect.
Restart samba is worth a try - check nmb and smb daemons are running.
Yep, and 137 and 138 listening.


I've also been changing domain names and hosts files so there is plenty of
scope.
