Or the commandline utilities that come with PuTTY, psftp and pscp which I have 
used form time to time.

I'd suggest adding VNC - either realVNC or tightVNC and making sure you have 
that for Linux and Windows.

I'd also contemplate rdesktop, although there are not so many sessions around, 
at the moment.
