Re: [LUG] .Net lecturer gets kicked out

:D

Just had our geohazards lecture in Scott building. The .net talk clashed
so people were shoved off to Babbage building.

Unfortunately I can't advertise being behind the mess :)

Many thanks.

I attended the .net lecture (in Babbage). Sadly I didn't get much out of it. There didn't seem to be the usuall marketing, a C# HelloWorld was written and compiled. I handed my email address to a few of the attendees so that they could contact me regarding their interest in an Open Source meeting. Also I left a few fliers with weblinks to DotGNU, I didn't have the balls to stand at the door and hand them out. There was no Q & A session but a small number of attendees and the presenters met in the refectory. From the discussion I had with Microsoft, they are more corncerned now about the Desktop market than the server market and view Linux as a problem on the Desktop.

After speaking to a number of students, I get the impression that they are only interested in learning .net because they have an exam or coursework on it. One student pointed out that it is difficult to migrate from Windows to Linux, but said that RedHat was also identical to MacOS X and the migration would be easier from MacOS to Linux.

Regards
Andrew
