I don't know anything specifically about the errors you had compiling this 
package but I would treat the warning from ./configure about not having Qt 
on your system as significant.  The qt libraries are needed by KDE and 
some other apps for their GUI.  While you certainly have them on your 
system, you probably don't have the parts needed to compile other 
applications, these are normally split off into a separate developers 
package (qt-dev).

You mentioned in an earlier posting that you were running SuSE 8.2 
personal.  This is missing a lot of applications compared to the 
Professional edition, but they can be picked up: try 
http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2/suse/i586/
to pick up the applications you need.

Otherwise, you could try reconfiguring the build process with AVIFILE so 
that it does not try to build the qt based apps (assuming you don't need 
them). Try ./configure --help and look for any options to this effect.
