Star Office is always painful to load / start (IMHO even when you have a
high spec machine). LTSP guru's smile, wink and then suggest you keep one
client with Star Office constantly open so it remains loaded in memory
(virtual at least), the idea being the next user to login and load Star
Office gets an "instant on" or near to "instant on" response. IIRC HP-UX had
a feature that uses (or used to use) sticky bit on executables to keep them
in memory even when nobody is using it. This could be used to ensure quicker
start-up for frequently used applications.
