That looks ok, you can check the variable it set by 
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
at the prompt.

But setting the library path was a bit of a guess, as I'd expect the 
compiler to know about /usr/lib anyway.

Anyone more famililar than me (ie at all) with FreeBSD got any 
suggestions?
