It won't connect so far, but it does dial.

I keep getting st7554: fifo underrun! in dmesg. (hundreds of times).

Then when the USB modem is disconnected and the internal PCI modem (with it's 
own software controller driver already installed) suddenly becomes invisible. 
I tried logging out but then the laptop crashed (not an unknown problem). It 
seems OK after a reboot.
