Hi,

Have just signed up for BT-Broadband. They weren't able to tell me if it works with Linux, can anyone confirm for me that it does? I will be using the BT-Supplied equipment. Fortunately, I have 14 days to cancel if it doesn't.

Cheers
Ixent

OK,
1st off broadband in linux works just dandy.. (see.. i use it)
2nd get a decent ISP, BT suck ass... (i know i worked for them)
3rd The modem they supply you will have Windows drivers, but it will be an Alcatel Speedtouch modem.. USB.. you'll need USB working.. also the speedtouch drivers for linux (they are out there on the alcatel website)

BT will not support you in any way shape or form if you use Linux, if it damages their equipment (as the modem is theirs for the 1st 12 months) you will be liable for the cost of a new modem... personally I opted for a separate Router/Modem in one.. cost was higher, about 90 quid from a high street shop (sidwell street actually) but it works a dream with all 5 of my PC's, cross OS compatability problems ? what are they !!?

I really hope you get confirmation from BT that you have 14 days to cancel, when i was there (a month ago) they didn't have that policy.. when the ADSL went live, you were locked in for 12 months.. weather you use the service or not.. really sucks eh ??

My personal advice would be to subscribe to an ISP that will support linux, go choose your own router/modem whatever you want, steer clear of BT as they are penny pinching gits.. (in my opinion)

The ISP i personally use, and i have has excelent customer service and support from are associated networks ltd. (http://www.anlx.net) they offer Broadband for 99p less than BT.. but with a whole world of extras that you can have added on, like static IP's, firewalls etc.etc..

But hey, don't let me sway you just because if your credit card payment fails you will be without broadband till you pay up, where as other ISPs are a little more flexable.

Just food for thought..

Neil
