Now can't remember exact URL's been a while since I put RH on my Laptop 
( Still can't use Lucent Modem :-( )

start at redhat.com they have a hardware compatability section. In there 
you will find links to linux on laptops or something like that.

Once there you can see user reviews and also investigate list of Laptops 
that will be compatible
