So what might the panel use to provide a webmail and POP3 access (say) for about 1 000 000 people from about 2-3 locations each. (Oh, and a directory)
Assuming they are something like <user>@<domain>.nhs.uk that shouldn't be too difficult. Becuase you can fairly tranparently have different domains hosted on different servers. As well as easily rearange the servers without users noticing. Why not use IMAP, rather than POP3? You can even have the web interface handle all the same folders as Outlook Express, Netscape, Kmail, whatever uses. Also if you use POP3 and your computer dies you can lose any mail stored on it. If security is an issue all the standard protocols can run with SSL.
And could you get it in under £91 e6 forthe first 10 years do you think? EDS are giving us, it is rumoured, a proprietary solution for that much.
Will the proprietary solution still work in 10 years time? -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
