I find that Sax2 and YaST do more harm than good when trying to get
these drivers working, so I don't bother with either.
The first thing I would suggest, is that you go to nvidia.co.uk and grab
the latest drivers from there. I've never used the ones from SuSE YOU,
but I can say for sure that the ones from Nvidia work (they may also be
newer too).

If you install them and have the same problems, it could be a problem
with symbolic links which I frequently have in SuSE 8.0.

If you do "ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.so*" you SHOULD get the following:

david@xx:~> ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.so*
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Sep 24 15:55
/usr/lib/libGL.so -> /usr/lib/GL/libGL.so.1.0.3123.nv_glx
lrwxr-xr-x    1 root     root           27 Sep 27 16:48
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> GL/libGL.so.1.0.3123.nv_glx
david@xx:~>

Both the libGL.so and libGL.so.1 files should be pointing to the Nvidia
libGL.so.xxxxx in the /usr/lib/GL/ directory.

Hope this helps, David.
