One approach to it is this, although he didn't go so far, yet. http://www.runstate.com/Detach/ He has a very interesting project caleld Augur. This is a generalised offline mail reader, descended from a project (or first try) called ogre, and owing much to the excellent and British program Ameol2 which is the CIX mail and conference client.
