I am trying to utilize fron to upload an html file every 10 minutes.. i got that bit working just fine, but i only want it to do part of the cron if it can contact a particular host.
In your cronttab... */5 * * * * "/bin/ping -c 1 [hostname]" && /program/to/run/if/it/works Should work,unless you want better checks, not just ping (probably what is best if its on dial us is check the interface is up).
I really should get in to these if, while statements shouldn't i.. i am just not a programmer.... (i just can't get my head around it)
Ohhh don't worry - I can't sometimes too, and I've been doing it all my life!
