Is there a safe way to do chown -R, also chowning the '.' 
files (.profile 
etc.) without going in to '..' and screwing up the file 
ownership for a 
system.... i know that kelly had this problem a while ago, i 
nearly did 
the same but thought better of it....

chown -v user.group * .[!.]* -R

Should work.
