I normally use http://www.gojobsite.co.uk who are quite good and let you set up searches according to industry, keywords you want (eg c++, mysql) and keywords you don't want (eg Slough, Reading). Their keyword mechanism for area is less precise. You receive 1 email per search per day. One draw back to using online sites is that most of the vacancies are posted by recruitment agencies. This makes your services more expensive to the company that takes you on. I believe it is normal for them to charge 75% plus of what you get for contract work. For a permie position I beleive they charge 10% of the annual wage up front with a further charge if you are still there after 6 months.
