[LUG] Piracy

Singapore pirates flog Linux for $0.00

Singapore software pirates have been busted selling Linux for as little as
$0.00.
More than 4,000 illegal copies of open source software have been seized in
seven police raids across the island, CNET reports.
Linux Mandrake 8.1 edition was going for $0.00, and the Red Hat 7.2 version
was altogether pricier at $0.00. More than 80 per cent of the seized gooda
were open source.
The raids took place in October. The penalty for piracy in Singapore is up to
seven years in jail.
In February, officers from the Intellectual Property Rights Branch of the
Singapore Police Force said they had crushed a local software piracy
syndicate with a co-ordinated raid on several targets.
Eight suspects were arrested in that operation , and 60,000 pirated CDs with
a street value of about $0,000.00 were seized.
