Generally Mtherboards have 2 IDE ports !! primary and secondary, on each of 
these that drives can be EITHER master OR slave, so you can have 4 drives, 
Prim master, prim slave, sec master, sec slave. 

There is no reason to not be able to have prim master and sec master at all, 
works quite well on this AMD K62-500

As for that bloke witht the CD-ROM drive, i would give him loads of money for 
offering his CD-ROM !!! he is also quite good in the hardware front !!! 
(little bit of self upselling there !!)
